Random Rants...or...where my stress goes

Thats it? Thats what I waited for?

So..I saw Star Wars Episode III the other day, as I mentioned in my previous entry. Thinking about it more and more, I decided to make an entry about my thoughts..so if you have not seen Star Wars Episode III yet...there might be a few spoilers below..so stop reading if you dont want to know some things...

General complaints:

1. The movie seemed crammed together with scenes..very sloppily put together. The scenes did not last long enough..it jumped all around.
2. It totally lacked continuity; it was like trying to watch pulp fiction stoned with an epileptic seizure.
3. I was disappointed from the first word of the crawl; "War!"
4. The movie was supposed to be dark and draw me emotionally, and it did not. It was flat.
5. The action scenes were too busy and not original; Yoda did the same moves and so forth in Episode II
6. The CG was horrid in certain scenes..and decent in others.
7. General Grievous was horrible with his "old man breathing and coughing".
8. Let Anakin/Darth's charred body stop smoking for even 10 seconds before strapping him into the Darth mask and suit (kind of relates to point number 1 listed above)
9. The lizard was sort of lame.
10. The semi-cute little droids that attacked Obi Wan's ship in the opening..were..a little too cute to be seen as "bad guys".
11. The acting was flat as usual. And I am a fan of both Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in general.
12. The jedis all died without much of a fight except Mace Windu.
13. The battle with Obi Wan was too cluttered..it needed to be just a battle sequence like in the 2nd with Dooku..though I uderstand Lucas' intentions with making it..a real confrontation.
14. The opening battle, while visually appealing, seemed very fake..and all that, just to save the Chancellor?

Maybe this will come out soon:

I thought of what made the original Star Wars so cool:

1. There was humor in many scenes, but the actors played it off so cool (think Han and Leia).
2. There was generally 1 of every alien except humans, until you get to the Ewoks, which were weak (but Ill take the Ewoks over Jar Jar any day fo the week).
3. Lucas did not force the humor and cutesiness until the Ewoks..
4. It wasnt as much of a political statement, and without potential racial stereotypes.
5. Though much of the dialogue was hokey, the acting was good.
6. You actually cared about the characters and what happened to them.
7. The effects and action did not detract from the plot.

I think the contrast between the new Star Wars films and Lord of the Rings can't be more striking; Hollywood glitz with visionless lacking in creativity vs. New Zealands biggest contribution to the world done by a bunch of movie industry peripherals.

All that said, I do need to see Episode III again ;)

And here is my obligatory sassy comment. I don't look for a story line or Oscar calliber acting in the Star Wars movies. I just look for special effects and maybe for some of the pieces of the puzzle to fit. Considering that I fall asleep during any sci-fi movie, it is a miracle that I actually liked this one. Oh, and Hayden being HOT also helped keep me awake. But, I agree that the lizard sucked. He might as well have been riding Barney. It was a stupid idea.

I actually liked this one. Granted I laughed out loud at the romance scene between Anakin and Padme....actually I am still chuckling at the unfortunately bad script-writing...but I thought the rest (albeit not as stellar and never will be as the first Trilogy) was pretty good. The lizard worked for me....The smokin' body was funny too though.

But I think that I would have to agree with Agnieszka in that I don't ever go to a movie like this third installation expecting good acting or good script-writing...This movie had good effects, good overall story (not stellar, but good) and it was (in my mind at least) a good tying-up of most of the loose ends.

my four cents worth!

I haven't seen Star Wars yet. Though #2 was a downer, I was almost excited to go. Almost. I still have to see it, since there is such a big hoopla about it. I'll probably wait until it goes into the 1.50 tuesday night matinee.

boo boo, mr.lucas, who's a big shot now?
